Reposted from @ajmeows ! I’m so proud to have been part of this process- I did the original digitization for her husbands frock coat for Versailles. I digitized the border design from an extant embroidery sample from the @cooperhewitt museum, and she turned it into an incredible appliqué and pocket that she the.mn used to make her coat! It’s going to be fabulous and I’m so excited to see how it all turns out! You should check out her work though - @ajmeows is just such an incredible costumer and has been an inspiration to me for years. . Of note, I will be selling this pattern. It’s actually designed for a single needle machine so it embroiders pretty easily on it. However, it’ll be released after Fetes Galantes. ^^ . Her words: The pocket border came out pretty nice! This is me surprised because it was looking pretty dubious a couple days ago. LOL And that is the last of the appliqués, so I can finally start assembling the coat tonight. • • • • • #historicalembroidery #18thcenturyfashion #18thcenturymenswear #machineembroidery #frockcoat #babylock #babylockspirit #pocket #sierradesignera #historicalmenswear #florianistabilizers #isacord #isacordthread
I can honestly say that this dress from the @palais_galliera was on my “to do” for the last 5 years- and to finally put it together was both challenging and yet felt like such a treat. It was so much fun to digitize this and figure out how it would all go together. I am surprised how much I love wearing this - between the incredibly soft and breathable cotton, and the wonderfully comfortable design, I think this is my favorite outfit to wear. I honestly feel like a queen in it. . This incredible photo was taken by @lindseyhindererportraits . The historical hair and make up was done by @hair.makeupbymalorie (who even did my blush like 18th century portraits - that’s how detailed she is!) using hair pieces by @thejennylafleur (available in her shop!). I’m wearing this on top of the @redthreaded whalebone corset which is giving me that perfect shape. The lush and soft cotton was purchased at @burnleyandtrowbridge , using silk threads from @superiorthreads . I do offer this pattern for sale in my Etsy store- both the standard version for someone with my measurements and an option for a custom one in your measurements. All digitized and sewn on @babylocksewing programs and machines, in particular the Valiant, Victory and Soprano. . #18thcentury #18thcenturyfashion #historicalcostuming #oldfashioned #queen #babylocksewing #machineembroidery #machineembroiderydesigns #palaisgalliera #stl #stlphotography #stlphotographer #saintlouis #saintlouisphotography
🥰Oh wow! @sophia___khan is the master of ingenuity! I had some excess boot embroidery lying around the house so I sold it to the talented Sophia who turned it into this incredible Swiss waist! I’m so impressed at how she used the symmetry - it’s something that wouldn’t have even occurred to me! Kudos! Her words: My Swiss Waist is complete. Made from left over embroidery from @sewstine . It is mostly hand sewn so the stitches are not visible on the face. I threw together a #historybound outfit with my 1780s shirt and a vintage inspired circle skirt I made until I get a 1860s look together. #historybounding #1860s #historicalfashion #historicalcostuming #vintagestyle #vintagefashion #swisswaist #corsetry #handsewn
@lindseyhindererportraits always gives me a little “sneak peak” the day of the photoshoot! I am LOVING IT!! Just want to add that the hat is by @lydiafast - @morgana_fae_couture is the shop where I found the dress. The photographer’s ( @lindseyhindererportraits ) words: One from today for Christine. I know I will have lots of favorites from this shoot, but this one caught my eye during download because of her soft but complex expression. Plus the line of her face along with the line of the hat! It's the little things, my friends. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Muse: @sewstine ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hair + Makeup: @savanahsummerbeauty ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shoot assistant: @elise.sowgrace ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #stlphotographer #stlphotography #stlfaces #stmua #stlmakeupartist #modernphotography #modernphotoshoot #glamourshoot #voguestyle #voguefashion #stylemagazine #fashionablelife #fineartportrait #workofart #legacyportrait #livingart #fineart #portrait #headshot #costumer #vintageclothing #edwardiandress #edwardiancostume #dressmaker #stlouisphotographer #vintagevogue #cosplayphotographer #historicalclothing #victoriaandalbertmuseum #vamuseum
Today’s #fallforcostume is #glamour - so I’ll harken back to my first photoshoot with @lindseyhindererportraits with makeup and hair by @savanahsummerbeauty . It’s really funny, I never considered myself particularly pretty or glamorous but it’s amazing how those two can change that perception of yourself!
Phew! My 1810 dress inspired by the @vamuseum red gown is almost done! (Still needs silk ribbon sewn into it, and after a quick try on. I’ve decided I need some clips in the back). But whee! I think it’ll be all done in time for the photoshoot on Tuesday! Fabric from @silkbaron . #regency #strawberrydress #thestrawberrydress #handmade #regencyfashion
Today’s #fallforcostume is #joy - I honestly can’t even describe how much joy I feel when I get to work with fellow artists on a photoshoot. It makes the heart swell. Showing a short montage of me getting ready with @hair.makeupbymalorie who did my hair and makeup for my photoshoot with @lindseyhindererportraits . @littlebitgerman laced me in while wearing her own outfit and @elise.sowgrace worked with Lindsey to make the photoshoot perfect. . If you’d like to see more, the video of the making of this dress is up on YouTube. Link on profile. . #fallforcostume2020
I was scrolling through 18th century portraits, looking for inspiration when I ran into this gorgeous painting by Simon Maris at the Rijksmuseum. Not exactly 18th century (it’s 1906) and features a beautiful 12 year old named Isabella. I don’t know why but it was entirely haunting and so beautiful it makes the heart ache. Thought I would share it with all of you, to take a moment in the day and bask in beautiful portraiture.
I’m convinced that the pop of #orange is what makes this outfit! The orange is a silk duchesse and I used the Truly Victorian walking skirt to make it- LOVE how it turned out! The puffed sleeved jacket and overskirt are from Ageless Patterns - and needed some significant readjustment to fit me; but I do love how the whole thing looks! I’m pretty excited to share it once I have finished pictures since I got these shot on Tuesday too! #fallforcostume #fallforcostume2020
Today’s #fallforcostume is #space, so I’m going to embrace my inner space geek and Trekkie. Here are some pictures of my #warhammer40k costuming and gaming stuff. Note my matching pink army and warlord titan. I think I own about 16k points of this army now, even if the pandemic keeps me from playing it. The orks are the waaaahh boys. :) @warhammerofficial
Today’s #fallforcostume is future so I’ll be discussing the future costumes I hope to make. I have started Malcolm’s second frock coat for his second birthday, this one with a design that is from the @metmuseum , except the border has been switched out with gummy bears ( his favorite snack)! Last picture shows the muslin of his pattern. . This particular floral pattern is available for free on the @babylock Palette Facebook group, along with a lecture series on how to make historical digitizations like this one. I use Palette 11 to digitize and a Baby Lock Venture to embroider. . I am also starting the Valdemar Slot Mantua in Denmark, which I was able to find the pattern for thanks to @isiswardrobe (a brilliant costumer- you should absolutely check her out when you have a chance), in an old 1977 book called Moden I 1700-arene af Ellen Andersen. . And fear not, I am planning on also starting my black and white striped dress made with sharpie and silk taffeta but the fabric is at present stuck in the mail somewhere, and my new dress form (by @beatriceforms ) is being made soon! . I’m terrified for the future, but I do try to keep my hopes up with interesting and fun projects. . Heads up, I am a Baby Lock ambassador so I am sponsored by them. #fallforcostume2020
Today’s #fallforcostume is #past and I think this is a good time to show then and now. (Also will post for yesterday’s #changes theme) . The girl in the left is an unfortunate victim of the Great Bobby Pin shortage, and is me from 2015. This is my very first regency dress, based on the pink dress that Emma wears in the 1996 Gwyneth Paltrow wears. I didn’t realize I needed undergarments so I’m wearing a VS push-up bra. I still really liked this dress and was quite proud of myself. . The one on the right is based on the V and A dress (which was also in the 2020 Emma - can you tell that my favorite Austen book is Emma?). . I tease myself for leaving my hair down and the lack of proper support, but honestly, I’m really happy to show this. Indeed, we all start from somewhere and I’m really glad I kept with it, and I want to encourage anyone who wants to start to do so. Life is short and we have so many skills we should collect while we’re here. . Another sneak preview from the photoshoot on Tuesday - still so happy and excited from it! . The gown is what I’ve nicknamed the “strawberry dress”, since it’s the @vamuseum dress and #strawberry dress rolled into one! . It was a dream to work with this team- @lindseyhindererportraits at the camera, @hair.makeupbymalorie on hair and makeup, with @elise.sowgrace helping make sure everything was perfect, and @littlebitgerman doing all the bits of odds and ends that needed doing. . As usual, it takes a village and working my way up from the underwear, corset from @redthreaded , shift and petticoat from Shop beyond time on Etsy, fabric from @silkbaron
Yesterday, I did my photoshoot with @lindseyhindererportraits . It was something I think all of us were looking forward to and we did with significant thought on how best to be safe; N95s were worn by anyone not being photo’d and anyone who was being photographed had appropriately quarantined beforehand. I am so grateful that we were all willing to do this- and it made my heart so, so happy to make art with these incredible artists. . @hair.makeupbymalorie is a talented and skilled artist who looked at original paintings and tried to recreate the exact hair and makeup on me. I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a makeup artist who tried to capture to perfection how the original painter did the blush and lipstick and brows on my own face, while adding her own flair. @lindseyhindererportraits of course remains a master of light and composition. @elise.sowgrace who has such a great eye for detail helped by setting me up and making sure my gown, train and trim were always on point. @littlebitgerman was there getting photographed with me and was otherwise helpful by keeping me company, gossiping with me and taking behind the scene shots (do check her IG for more tidbits!). . Thank you ladies. It was an honor making art with all of you.
Today’s #fallforcostume is #pink. I share my pink frock coat- this is a very early piece before I fully figured out digitizing so the base digitization is by a now defunct company called Canbit Corner and the placement by me. It was a learning piece ( I will never embroider on large bits of silk taffeta again for example since it really can’t handle heavy embroidery as well as I’d like it too) but I still love it! I will be remaking myself another frock coat soon, I think? I’m treating myself to another day or two of no projects before I start another two! . First Photo by @lindseyhindererportraits Second is from a @stlouismag photoshoot I did a few years back
